Now it’s not just glasses and candles you can make. The sky’s the limit really but what about a lamp made from a bottle?
There are many different ways you can use a bottle to make a lamp.
You can use the bottle as the base. Imagine a lamp that was lit at the top and the bottom. I can see that would look pretty unusual but pretty cool too!
You could cut the bottle and use it as a lampshade. The added bonus here is that you need to put the cable through the top of the bottle and then attach the light socket/fitting. This automatically stops the bottle from falling making it very secure.
You can even turn the bottle upside down and use it that way too creating a very retro but modern factory style light feature.
You could even place it on its side. You have so many options for your trusty old glass bottle or jar. Yep I said jar. You can even re-purpose your old jam jars to make some funky lighting or candles for that matter.
With your imagination and a few old pieces of scrap you really can make many beautiful items for next to no cost. I will be looking ant making new items from old things in the near future so watch this space.
Lamp kits for bottles
DIY Bottle Lamp Kit in Nickel/Silver (x2)
This particular kit is so versatile and can be used for almost any occasion. It comes in a pack of two so you can make a nice pair of bottle lamps. They can be put into most standard bottles to make some interesting decorations or even bedside lamps.
The kit comprises of two sets of eight foot cables with the light fitting attachment. There is a screw which connects the bulb fitting to one of three supplied bungs which will fit beer bottles, wine bottles, champagne bottles, bourbon bottles and even mason jars.
The cable is attached to the bulb fitting which means you don’t even need to drill or cut into the bottles. Handy if there is a one off bottle you love and don’t want to risk accidental damage when cutting into it.
Aspen Creative Bottle Lamp Kit in Black
This is a perfect kit if you are looking for a kit to give you that retro industrial feel. The kit comprises of a bulb fitting with six feet of black cable with a cool turn knob on the side. It’s not the cheapest kit around and if you want to use a bottle of mason jar with a larger gauge neck then you will need to buy a larger cork/bung to fit BUT it’s such a nice variant I wanted to add it here.
Imagine this fitting connected to a mason jar filled with all sorts of random bits of metal, bolts, screws, and cogs etc. Then topping the lamp is a large Edison squirrel cage bulb (see below for bulbs). An awesome showpiece for any modern home.
The beauty of this kit is that you can easily make your cool retro industrial mason jar lamp in under 5 minutes. Making awesome stuff has never been so easy!
Wine Bottle Lights with Cork, 10 Pack
This kit comprises ten, yes ten sets of lights! Each set has 10 bright LED bulbs on 40 inches of copper wire. The battery pack is actually a fake cork which gets inserted after the lights have been fed into the bottle to create the illusion of fireflies in a bottle.
The copper wire is bendable so you can create many different variations of lights as you can imagine.
These kits are battery operated so you can use them outdoors or indoors, imagine a few of these dotted around the room to set the mood for a nice romantic meal or to spoil yourself in a nice hot bubble bath with a glass of wine.
Tiki Torch Style Lamp Kit
This great kit comes with 4 Tiki Torch fittings and wicks and can fit most standard wine bottle or bourbon bottle neck sizes. Each Tiki lamp also comes with it’s own lamp cover on a chain giving that extra bit of class to your lamps.
As these lamps have a naked flame they are recommended for outdoor or garden use or if you have a Tiki style bar.
Bottle lamp bulbs
Edison Bulb 60W Large Squirrel Cage x6
These bulbs are 60 watts and would look great in a bottle or jar lamp with some funky retro fittings. Note the bulbs are coated to give a soft amber glow and as such should be considered mood lights as they are not designed to be extra bright. They are also dimmable too to create and even larger variety of mood lights.
This pack comes with 6 bulbs making it excellent value.
At 125 mm wide it’s not a small bulb but with it’s larger than average dimensions it makes a great addition to the retro bulb set and would look great as a ‘naked’ shade less lamp with an industrial style fitting.
Edison Bulb 60W Original Squirrel Cage x6
These bulbs are modeled on the original Edison design and features amber glass. The bulbs are 60w and look amazing. It’s a perfect addition to any lamp kit as the color and shape of the bulbs are truly great.
These bulbs are soft glow and are dimmable which will let you create many different kinds of light accents to your room and now greater value as a pack of 6!
Edison Bulb 40W Tubular Amber Bulbs x4
These bulbs are based on a vintage Edison style with a great tubular design. They are soft amber mood lights with 40 watts of power. They are dimmable to allow different mood light settings based on your needs.
Connect 4 in a row to create a really cool light feature which will be pleasing to the eye as well as creating a great talking point.
